The Open Door Boutique, an iconic store in the heart of Asheville’s downtown, has always been a reflection of the hip, bohemian style that is quintessential Asheville. Now, under the skillful ownership of Claudia Guerrero and her son Juan David De Narváez, the store has a unique fusion of Latin American fashion and indigenous art from many regions in Central and South America, especially from their home country Colombia. Their vision is to introduce and support the native cultures, craftsmen and small family companies in a relaxed atmosphere where customers not only enjoy shopping but they feel comfortable having a cultural experience through music, art, and conversations.

Asheville Sister Cities Inc. and Palenque Rojo Theatre Company are proud to present “TZAKBU: Queen of the Maya” a theatrical performance written by Ragnar Conde and produced and directed by Hiram Marina, featuring actors from Chiapas, Mexico. Showing on October 2 at the Diana Wortham Theatre.
TZAKBU is a theater show that entwines real events with the imagination of Fanny, recreating who Tzakbu really was; as a queen, mother, wife, and governor of Maya people. It is a show about two women’s roles in history and their refusal to be silenced despite being challenged. The show features live music, dance, Maya rituals, and song, highlighting a discovery in archaeological history that is still relevant to our culture today.
