Hello Asheville!

 Howzit going.

My name is Joseph Ruiz AKA Jose Ruiz, from Chicago, IL.  My father is from Bogota, Colombia and my mother is from New York.

I have lived in the Mountains of WNC since 1996. Since I moved here, many of my friends and family have asked me what brought me to these Mountains and what made me fall in love with them to  make them my permanent home.  I first came to work with the North Carolina Outward School where I had the opportunity to instruct wilderness education for 10 years. We concentrated on living in our natural surroundings and working in groups to bring about individual growth.

Since I was in my late teens I became very interested in the world of Real Estate. As a young man I had the opportunity to obtain, renovate, and sell properties in Chicago. After 10 years with The Outward Bound School, I made the choice to move to the next stage in my life and explore the real estate market in WNC.  I knew I could apply my learnings and experiences from Chicago to this market.

In 2004 I obtained my Real Estate license and became a Broker in WNC and I officially began my voyage into this new and diverse market that was full of opportunities waiting to be discovered.

With great joy I showed those interested the beautiful sunsets and low hanging mist that baptized this gem ,The Smokey Mountains.

During that time, I also started Ayudas1 which allowed me the opportunity to work with the Latino population that was arriving or settling out here in the Asheville area. My organization focused on education of home buying along with other social and financial services.

Asheville is represented by many different subcultures of the Latino world. They come with different experiences and from different time periods. We are Liberals and Conservatives, rich and poor, but in Asheville we are all accepted and welcomed. When destiny smiles on me and brings me clients from my culture, I love to hear their family history and events.

I hope to participate more in this Blog during the months to come and share more about my experiences in Asheville and hear about yours.
