Spanish-speaking visitors to Asheville now have a website promoting tourism to the city just for them.

Descubre Asheville launched last month, said Luis Carlos Serapio, the site’s creative director.

The site’s logo reads, “Descubre Asheville. Viva. Ecléctica. Cosmopolita.” In English that means, “Discover Asheville. Vibrant. Eclectic. Cosmopolitan.”

“It makes perfect sense” to have a Spanish-language website for Asheville, said Serapio, a native of Veracruz, Mexico, who has lived in the city for about 16 years.

Half of the 51 million people with Hispanic or Latino heritages who live in the United States are bilingual, Serapio said.

He researched the successes that major corporations, such as Walmart and McDonald’s, have had advertising in Spanish to that market.
