Would like to improve your communication?  Have you ever felt offended?  Have you made assumptions that turned out to be false?  Do you criticize yourself?   If so, you may find The Four Agreements to be a helpful guide.

These Agreements became known worldwide when Dr. Miguel Ruiz published his bestselling books. Don Miguel was born in Mexico and became an MD in California.

The Agreements are based on the idea that our family, culture and religion of origin programmed us to think in particular ways. Had we been born in another culture, we’d be different.

The First Agreement: BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORDS

Our words are very powerful. With them, we can give love and hope, but we can also hurt and destroy. Remember that before speaking to others and to yourself.

The Second Agreement: DON’T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY

What another person tells you, is based on their particular interpretation of you, not on an absolute reality. Knowing this will help you avoid unnecessary drama.

The Third Agreement:  DON’T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS

We tend to explain every single thing that happens, including other peoples’ actions. This is a natural human tendency. The problem is that sometimes we misunderstand things and come to false conclusions.  Instead of assuming, let’s just ask.  We’ll avoid misunderstandings.

The Fourth Agreement: ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST

Do your best in every situation, keeping in mind that your energy and abilities vary over time.  When we give our best, we have the satisfaction of knowing we did everything we could. This avoids inner criticism and creates peace of mind.
