International Asheville Food Tour, a culinary trip around the globe lead by local bilingual blogger and foodie: Luis Carlos Serapio, from Descubre Asheville.

I love food, and I find it to be the best way to meet people and to make new friends. Where I come from, we always offer you food. I’m originally from Veracruz, México where my mother and grand mother made tortillas from fresh grind corn.

As a result, my desire to meet new cultures has taken me trough: Central America, India, México, Europe and South East Asia. No matter where I’m, food is always a bonding element.  Asheville has some of the best restaurants in the country.

You are about to find out why Asheville is a culinary destination!

International Food Tour is for those looking for adventure: Indian, Italian, Mexican, Thai, Ethiopian cuisine, Artisan Liquors, Artisan Chocolate and more await for you.

Yes, you are about to try some of the best Asheville has to offer. Our culinary scene is rich in flavor and spice. At our participant restaurants we will try their food and learn about our dish.

On our walk around town I will give you tips on local attractions. I’m going to show you places with best views. I’ll show you My favorite local beer, my favorite pizza joint, tips on great artists galleries, where to catch a good music show, near by hikes, swimming holes, where to get a killer breakfast for less than $6 and more!

Things you should know about your host Luis:
  • Wildest meal: Cobra in Java (Indonesia)
  • Craziest story: Bitten by African Lion at 19
  • Why I love Asheville? Because it’s one of the most beautiful places I have seen in the world, the seasons, the city, the mountains, the FOOD!

#DescubreAsheville

El ceviche estuvo EPICO!

BISTEC A LA PALOMILLA

#DescubreAsheville

#DescubreAsheville

Sun, paella, mojitos, empanadas. Hanging out with my friend Stu Helm (aka The Food Fan) at Hemingway’s Cuba. This restaurant offers outstanding Cuban cuisine and some of the most spectacular views of the mountains.

What’s up guys and gals? To everyone who’s supporting this page, we appreciate you. We’re trying to bring you the best bilingual content to represent Asheville. Your support in that effort means a lot, so sending you a big hug and a high five.

For starters, Hemingway’s Cuba – o La Cuba de Hemingway – is gorgeous. In my humble opinion, it has the best rooftop patio and panoramic views of the mountains in town. And it’s located right in the heart of downtown.

#DescubreAsheville

We’re going to talk briefly about our visit with Stu Helm – who’s the most CHINGON/BADASS food critic. What do I mean? Well, if you’ve visited his site, you’ll quickly see he’s a real insider on the best places in town to chow down. On top of that, one time I joined him at a restaurant and noticed how nervous our waiter was to be serving Asheville’s food chingon. But, in reality, he need not worry – Stu is a very chill guy.

#DescubreAsheville

Stu, just about to dive into the ceviche Cubano with fried plantains.  DELICIOSO, fresh, and with a flavor that reminds me of Mexican ceviche. I would one hundred percent recommend on a hot afternoon, when you want to eat something light and refreshing. It’s like a trip to the beach for your mouth.

#DescubreAsheville

These empanadas are the best that I’ve had in Asheville. Yes, I’ve eaten many others in the city, but these were by far my favorite. Stu and I agree, and the empanada pastry was just flaky perfection. The seasoning on the chicken was also DIVINO.

#DescubreAsheville #CubanFood

Mojito on the rocks – and served with the best views of the city. If you’re looking for a place to lounge, you can do it well here. Hemingway’s Cuba is the Latin restaurant with the best ambiance and views. It almost feels like Miami – but surrounded by mountains, instead of the beach.

#DescubreAsheville

As you can see, this cut (of steak?) is quite Latino. What I mean by that is the American-style cut is much thicker. But this is so flavorful – with Caribbean touches like plantains and beans – called Moros con cristianos.

#DescubreAsheville

Paella is a traditional dish from Spain that has an international following. The version here at Hemingway’s Cuba does not disappoint. It’s full of succulent rabbit and chicken. Paella a la Valenciana.
